The University of Sarajevo (UNSA) is a vibrant and internationally connected institution that welcomes students from all over the world. Whether you are coming for an exchange semester, a full-degree program, or a short-term mobility, we offer a range of opportunities to support your academic and personal growth.

Sarajevo was my first choice when I applied for mobility, and I am truly happy to have been selected. I have been here for 10 months, and I have loved every single day of it. While the administration can be a bit complicated (as it is everywhere), every moment spent in Sarajevo has been absolutely worth it.

HOW TO COME TO THE UNIVERSITY OF SARAJEVO (UNSA)?
At the University of Sarajevo, international students can join us in two ways:
As a Degree-Seeking Student
If you are looking to complete a full bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree, follow the admission process for international students. Learn about available study programs, application requirements, deadlines, and visa procedures.
As an Exchange Student
As an exchange student, whether you are coming for a semester or a full academic year through Erasmus+, CEEPUS, a bilateral agreement between your home university and UNSA, or as a freemover, you will need to follow a specific application process. Here you can find information on how to apply, which documents are required, and what to expect during your stay.
⬇️ Continue reading below to learn more about exchange opportunities at UNSA.
To be eligible, students must be officially nominated by their home university, which confirms their enrollment status at the home institution. Nomination comes from our partner institutions with whom we have established and signed agreements. It is also possible to accept freemovers (students without an established agreement between their home institution and the University of Sarajevo), provided they meet the mobility requirements.
NOMINATION
The first step in applying for an exchange at the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) is nomination by the student’s home university. Nominations are submitted through the UNSA online form and must include the student’s name, gender, field of study, and email address. Once received, the UNSA International Relations Office contacts the student with instructions for the application. Nominations must be submitted exclusively by the official Erasmus or Institutional Coordinator of the student’s home university.
APPLICATION
Once nominated, students will receive an email with the Learning Agreement form. Depending on their interest of what to do, they need to download form (below) and explain their interest. This information is used to evaluate the application.
- Students coming for studies: The form must include selected courses from the offered Course catalogue list.
- Students coming for research: It is possible for students to come to the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) to conduct research for their final thesis or other academic projects. In this case, you should complete the Learning Agreement for Studies, entering “Research” in the Subjects field. Additionally, you must attach a separate document (typed on a blank A4 page) describing your research proposal, including the activities, goals, and expectations from your stay at UNSA.
- Students coming for traineeship: The form must include a description of planned activities of their traineeship.
DEADLINES
Nominations and applications must be submitted within the set deadlines. For the Winter semester (October–February), the deadline is 15 May (15 April if a visa is required). For the Summer semester (February–July), the deadline is 15 November (15 October if a visa is required).
I had the opportunity to come to this part of Europe, and from the moment I arrived, it exceeded my expectations. It provided exactly what I was looking for, especially considering my technical background, which is not always easy to find everywhere. I would definitely recommend coming here, both for personal growth and academic development.

STUDENT IS APPROVED. WHAT’S NEXT?
Once the nomination is approved, students will receive a welcome email from UNSA with confirmation of acceptance, instructions for required documents, and key information to prepare for their mobility.

THE START OF MOBILITY
Upon arrival, the student begins their mobility experience, settling into their new academic and cultural environment. This phase includes completing any necessary administrative procedures, attending orientation sessions, and adapting to university life at UNSA.

BEFORE DEPARTING HOME

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to come to the University of Sarajevo. With the support of academic professors, colleagues, and the International Relations Office, I successfully completed my research. I highly recommend Sarajevo to other researchers and PhD students, as it is a city rich in culture, offering inspiration for work, life, and academic exploration.
